6 Signs Babies Get Their First Tooth

Each baby is unique. Some babies get through teething with no signs at all, while others do experience discomfort. It is advisable that parents schedule a trip to the dentist after baby's first tooth arrives (usually around 6 months).

Teething between 4-7 months old is normal for most babies, however some start much later.

Common symptoms and signs of teething in babies include:

  • Swollen, tender gums
  • Fussiness and crying
  • A slightly raised temperature (less than 101 F)
  • Gnawing or wanting to chew on hard things
  • Drooling
  • Changes in eating or sleeping patterns
  • A tooth visible below the gum.
